ZIC visited the old office of the Association of Women’s Clubs (AWC) in Harare, and met with the current national staff, Catherine (director), Vimbai (researcher), Kuda (accountant), and Nothando (communications). The building has been sold and will soon be demolished to make way for a hotel. AWC has purchased a better building to operate from. In the past AWC received funding through Oxfam UK, Oxfam USA and Oxfam Australia, but the sanctions on Zimbabwe have blocked this being restored. Sekai asked ZIC to assist with restoring this funding.
On May 26-27, 2025, AWC relaunched itself a a special conference at the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) National Training Cente in Harare. This was required due to a breakdown of the longrunning organisaiton during the COVID-19 pandemic.
AWC is a massive national, club-based and memberhsip-driven women's association. As part of its renewal, the confernece sought out old and new partners, and ZIC was one of those invited to contribute and to attend.
AWC has its roots in the Harare African Women's Club formed in 1903. Today it is focused on providing women with skills and knowledge to enable them to drive sustainable economic development and engage in national political issues. Its clubs are in the provinces of Manicaland, Harare, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland West, Masvingo, Bulawayo and Matabeleland North.
